When Martha met Justin for a study group, Martha realized something was wrong with Justin. He looked very mad. So Martha is asking him what the problem is.
Martha: Justin, you look very mad. What’s wrong?
Justin : I’m so pissed off because of my little brother.
Martha: What happened between you two? Did you guys fight?
Justin : No. We didn’t fight, but he made me angry. This morning, he took my favorite T-shirt
without asking me!
Martha: Well, maybe you were sleeping or something.
Justin : Yeah, I was sleeping, but still, he should’ve left a message or something.
Martha: Oh, come on, Justin. He’s your brother. You guys can share clothes from time to time. And
I saw you wearing your brother’s clothes the other day.
Justin : Yeah, we can share our clothes, but not my favorite T-shirt.
Martha: I’m sure he would’ve asked you if you were awake.
Justin : Oh well, then, he should’ve woken me up and asked for my permission. When he comes
home tonight, he’s so dead!
Martha: Oh please, my friend, act your age! You are acting like a little kid.
■ Translation
마르타가 그룹 스터디를 위해 저스틴을 만났을 때 저스틴에게 무언가 문제가 있다는 사실을 깨달았다. 그는 매우 화가나 보였다. 그래서 마르타는 그에게 무슨 문제가 있었는지 묻고 있다.
Martha: 저스틴, 너 굉장히 화가나 보인다. 무슨 일이야?
Justin : 내 동생 때문에 무척 화가 났어.
Martha: 너희 둘 사이에 무슨 일이 있었는데? 둘이 싸웠니?
Justin : 아니. 싸우지는 않았지만, 그 애가 날 화나게 했어. 오늘 아침에 나한테 묻지도 않고
내가 제일 좋아하는 티셔츠를 가져가 버렸단 말이야!
Martha: 흠, 네가 자고 있었거나 그랬겠지.
Justin : 맞아, 난 자고 있었어, 하지만 그래도 메시지를 남기거나 했어야지.
Martha: 아, 그러지마, 저스틴. 네 동생이잖아. 형제끼리는 때때로 옷도 같이 입을 수 있잖아.
그리고 난 요전 날 네가 동생 옷 입고 있는 것도 봤는걸.
Justin : 그래, 옷을 같이 입을 수는 있지만, 내가 가장 좋아하는 티셔츠는 안돼.
Martha: 네가 깨어 있었으면 분명히 너한테 물어봤을 거야.
Justin : 아 글쎄, 그러면 날 깨워서 허락을 받았어야지. 오늘밤 집에 오면 죽었어!
Martha: 아 제발, 친구야, 좀 나이에 맞게 행동해! 넌 지금 어린애처럼 행동하고 있어.
■ The Meaning of the Expression
"Act one's age"는 "~의 나이에 맞게 행동하다" 라는 뜻으로 위의 상황처럼 누군가가 나이보다 어리게 군다거나 철없이 행동할 때 따끔하게 해줄 수 있는 말입니다.
