■Dialogue  

Daniel: Hey, Susan, where are you going?

Susan: Oh, hi! I'm going to the pet hospital. My dog is sick.

Daniel: I'm sorry to hear that. But what seems to be the problem?

Susan: Well, in fact, she was born with a heart disease, and it seems like it is
           getting worse. She can't even walk well.

Daniel: Oh, that's too bad. How old is she now?

Susan: She is five years old now.

Daniel: So, you took care of the sick dog for five years?

Susan: Yup. It wasn't easy, and honestly, I sometimes wanted to give her up. 
           But I just couldn't. You see, she is the apple of my eye!

Daniel: Wow! Your dog is really lucky to have such a nice owner like you.

Susan: Actually, I'm lucky to have such a lovely dog. She is like a sister to me.

Daniel: I just hope she will get better soon.

■Translation

Daniel: 수잔, 어디 가니?

Susan: 아, 안녕! 애완동물 병원에 가. 내 강아지가 아프거든.

Daniel: 안됐다. 그런데 어디가 아픈데?

Susan: 글쎄, 사실은, 우리 강아지는 태어날 때부터 심장병이 있었는데 점점 더심해지는
           것 같아. 잘 걷지도 못해.

Daniel: 아, 정말 안됐다. 지금 몇 살인데?

Susan: 이제 다섯 살이야.

Daniel: 그럼, 그 아픈 개를 5년 동안이나 돌봤단 말이야?

Susan: 응. 쉽지는 않았어, 그리고 솔직히 때로는 포기하고도 싶었어. 하지만 그럴 수가
           없었지. 그녀는 내 소중한보물이거든!

Daniel: 와! 네 강아지는 너처럼 좋은 주인을 두다니 정말 운이 좋구나

Susan: 사실, 그렇게 사랑스러운 강아지가 있어서 내가 운이 좋은 거지. 마치 내 동생 같거든.

Daniel: 강아지가 얼른 나았으면 좋겠다.

■The Meaning of the Expression  

흔히 아주 소중한 사람이나 사랑하는 사람을 "눈에 넣어도 아프지 않을 만큼 예쁜 사람" 이라고 표현하죠?

그렇게 소중한 사람이나 물건을 표현할 때 영어로는 "the apple of one's eye" 라고 한답니다
