Carol: Hey, Andy! How was

your blind date?

Andy: How did you know that I had a blind date?

Carol: Cindy told me that she set you up on a blind date.

Andy: Yes, I met her friend last Sunday.

Carol: And? How did it go?

Andy: Well, it didn’t go very well.

Carol: Oh, you didn’t like her?

Andy: Actually, I kind of liked her. I thought she was very cute.

Carol: Then, what’s the problem?

Andy: Hmm, I don’t know. Maybe she didn’t like my jokes, I guess.

Carol: What jokes?

Andy: Well, you know, I made a lot of silly jokes to break the ice.

Carol: Is that why she didn’t like you?

Andy: Yeah, I guess so. She gave me the cold shoulder and walked

away when I said hello to her at school library today.

Carol: Oh, that’s so mean!

■Translation

Carol: 야, 앤디! 소개팅 어땠어?

Andy: 내가 소개팅 했다는 거 어떻게 알았어?

Carol: 신디가 너한테 소개팅 시켜줬다고 하던걸.

Andy: 그래, 지난 일요일 날 그녀의 친구를 만났지.

Carol: 그리고? 어떻게 됐어?

Andy: 글쎄, 별로 잘 안됐어.

Carol: 아, 그 애가 별로였어?

Andy: 사실, 난 그 애가 좀 맘에 들었어. 아주 귀엽다고 생각했거든.

Carol: 그러면, 뭐가 문제야?

Andy: 흠, 모르겠어. 아마 내가 한 농담들이 맘에 안 들었나 봐.

Carol: 무슨 농담들?

Andy: 글쎄, 있잖아, 내가 어색한 분위기를 깨려고 바보 같은 농담을 많이 했거든.

Carol: 그래서 너를 맘에 안 들어 한 거야?

Andy: 응, 그런 것 같아. 오늘 학교 도서관에서 봤을 때 인사했더니 무시하고 걸어가버리더라.

Carol: 어머, 너무 못됐다!

 "give someone the cold shoulder" 는 "~에게 쌀쌀맞게 대하다, 무시하다" 는

뜻으로 사용되는 표현입니다.
