Keep your chin up

■ Dialogue

Rachel: Hey, Joseph! What’s up? You look pretty depressed.
Joseph: Yeah, I don’t feel so good today.
Rachel: What happened?
Joseph: You don’t want to know.
Rachel: Well, is there anything I can do to help?
Joseph: Hmm... please just leave me alone.
Rachel: Hey, we are friends. You can tell me anything!
Joseph: Well... ok. To tell you the truth, my girlfriend dumped me.
Rachel: Oh, I’m sorry to hear that.
Joseph: I don’t know what I should do.
Rachel: Hey, keep your chin up! There are tons of wonderful girls out there.
Joseph: All right. I’ll try. Thanks, Rachel.
Rachel: Hey, why don’t I fix you up on a blind date? I just remembered a girl who suits you perfectly.
Joseph: Really? Wow, that’ll be great! Thanks! You are the best!

■Translation

Joseph:
Rachel:
Joseph:
Rachel:
Joseph:
Rachel:
Joseph:

The Meaning of the Expression

"Keep your chin up" 은 풀이 죽어 있는 친구에게 "고개 숙이지 말고 턱 들어," 즉 "기운 내" 라고 말할 때 쓸 수 있는 표현입니다.
