Travis: I’m starving. Let’s go eat something.
Anna: Ok, why don’t we go to the Italian restaurant?
Travis: Which one are you talking about? The one we went to the other night?
Anna: No, the new one near the subway station.
Travis: Oh, the one with red roof! No, no. Let’s go somewhere else.
Anna: You don’t want Italian food?
Travis: No, I always love eating it, but I heard their food is awful.
Anna: Really? But it looked very nice.
Travis: Take my word for it. One of my friends has been there before, and he said the food was terrible.

■Translation

Travis: 나 배고파 죽겠어. 뭐 좀 먹으러 가자.
Anna: 그래, 그 이태리 식당에 갈까?
Travis: 어떤 식당을 말하는 거야? 요전 날 밤에 갔던 그 식당?
Anna: 아니, 지하철 역 근처에 생긴 새로운 식당.
Travis: 아, 그 빨간 지붕 식당! 아니, 아니. 다른데 가자.
Anna: 이태리 음식 먹기 싫어?
Travis: 아니, 이태리 음식 먹는 건 늘 좋아하지만, 거기 음식은 형편없대.
Anna: 정말? 하지만 굉장히 좋아 보이던데.
Travis: 내 말을 믿어. 내 친구 중에 한 명이 예전에 가봤는데, 음식이 형편없었대.
Anna: 알았어, 그럼, 다른데 가자. 특별히 가고 싶은 식당이 있니?
Travis: 사실 있어. 한국식 바비큐가 계속 땡겼거든. 너네 집 근처에 있는 한국 식당에 가는 건 어때?
Anna: 좋은 생각이다! 나도 한국 음식 아주 좋아해!
Travis: 얼른 가자!


■The Meaning of the Expression

"Take my word for it" 은 "Trust me" 와 비슷한 말로 상대방을 설득시킬 때 쓸 수 있죠. "내 말을 좀 믿어봐" 라는 뜻입니다.
