Dialogue

Sally and Robin met to have dinner together. But Robin doesn't look so good. So Sally is asking him if everything is ok.

Sally: Robin, are you ok? You don't look so good today.
Robin: Well, I think I just got up on the wrong side of the bed today.
Sally: What happened?
Robin: It seems like everything is annoying me today.
Sally: Well, I can tell that you are annoyed by something.
Robin: Listen. In the morning, on my way to school, someone spilled coffee on my pants on the subway.
Sally: Oh, that's terrible!
Robin: And in my first class, my teacher yelled at me in front of everyone because I forgot to bring my assignment.
Sally: Gosh! How embarrassing!

샐리와 로빈은 함께 저녁식사를 하기 위해 만났다. 하지만 로빈은 별로 기분이 좋아 보이지 않는다. 그래서 샐리는 그가 괜찮은지 묻고 있다.

Sally: 로빈, 괜찮니? 오늘 별로 기분이 안 좋아 보인다.
Robin: 글쎄, 그냥 오늘 일진이 안 좋은 것 같아.
Sally: 무슨 일이 있었는데?
Robin: 오늘 모든 게 다 날 짜증나게 하는 것 같아.
Sally: 흠, 네가 뭔가에 짜증났다는 건 알겠다.
Robin: 들어봐. 아침에 학교 가는 길에 지하철에서 누가 내 바지에 커피를 쏟았어.
Sally: 어머, 끔찍해라!
Robin: 그리고 첫 수업 시간에 내가 숙제 가져오는 걸 깜빡 잊어서 선생님이 모두 앞에서 나한테 고함을 치셨지.
Sally: 세상에! 당황스러웠겠다!
Robin: 그게 다가 아냐. 그리고 나서 내 라커의 키를 잃어버렸어. 그래서 다음 수업 시간에 쓸 교과서를 못 꺼내서 또 실컷 혼났지 뭐야.
Sally: 정말 오늘 하루 꼬였구나!
Robin: 으아! 오늘은 정말 끔찍했어!
Sally: 내일은 새로운 날이 될 거야. 그러니까 오늘 있었던 일은 잊고 음식 맛있게 먹어!

■The Meaning of the Expression

로마시대에는 왼쪽으로 누워 잠을 자면 좋지 않은 일이 생긴다고 믿었대요. 그래서 하루의 일진이 좋지 않을 때 ＂I got up on the wrong side of the bed today.＂말한답니다.
