Paula: I can’t believe this!
Mike: Hey, what’s wrong?
Paula: I just lost my wallet!
Mike: Really? Are you sure you lost it?
Paula: Yeah, I ransacked everywhere I could think of, but I can’t find it.
Mike: Did you have lots of money in your wallet?
Paula: Yeah, I withdrew a lot to buy a birthday present for my mom.
Mike: Oh, that’s terrible.
Paula: I’m very embarrassed. I’ve been good my whole life.
I don’t deserve this.
Mike: Hey, it can happen to anyone. You know, life is not all roses and wine!

■The Meaning of the Expression

인생을 살다 보면 좋은 일도 있고 나쁜 일도 있게 마련입니다. 즉, 인생은 늘 좋기만 한 것도 아니고 늘 나쁘기만 한 것도 아니죠. "인생이 늘 좋기만 한 것은 아니다" 라고 말할 때 영어로는 "Life is not all roses and wine" 이라고 표현한답니다.
